Mornings with Tozer

Mornings with TozerWhat’s not to love about Tozer? To the point and rather eloquent – now put that in a devotional. There’s just enough time to eat your breakfast, swallow your coffee, and digest that day’s entry of Tozer. Perfecto. I was thrilled to learn that there was a morning devotional by A. W. Tozer. I have already read Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening so many times the book is literally falling apart and when I stumbled on Mornings with Tozer it was a match made in heaven. You seriously cannot go wrong with a book by Tozer. It puts you in the right perspective, gets the wheels to turning, and if you’re on a tight schedule this devotional is so doggone perfect. If you haven’t got this one in your library you need it!

Tozer for the Christian Leader

Tozer for the Christian LeaderSo let’s just start off by saying I am a huge fan of A. W. Tozer. I have been since I was like thirteen. I picked up one of his books after being told time and time again I needed to read something by him and was glued from page one. The words roll off the page and speak to the soul. I love, love, love, Tozer’s works. And then when I saw a year devotional had been compiled I was like, heck yeah! This is a fabulous book, I really can’t say enough about it. A lot of Tozer’s works have been compiled, recompiled, etc, and as a result many books can have a smattering of the same thing, which isn’t a bad thing. But this particular title is aimed towards leaders in the church and it’s quite the book, let me tell ya. If you haven’t read it, you need to. I know I’ve been raving about it. Literally, when I saw that Moody was putting out different Tozer books my mouth dropped open and I’m pretty sure I screamed. So, yeah, read it, it’s a gem.

Anchor in the Storm

Make no mistake, Lillian can barely abide the man but with something going on it’s clear something has to be done. So begins the investigations that will lead Lillian to places she would never have dreamed.

Another good addition to World War II fiction by Sarah Sundin. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed her aviation stories but to see her branching out to the nautical end had me getting all kinds of excited. This was an easy-peasy read and if you enjoy this period you might consider picking up this book for your next read.

From This Moment

27066704Stella West’s sister is dead. And she is determined to get to the bottom of it. And Romulus White may be one of her keys to unlocking the shady mystery. And while he is vastly independent he has been wanting her to contribute to his magazine in hopes of making it big in the industry. Together they may prove to be the dynamic duo in more ways than one.

As always I enjoy Elizabeth Camden’s stories. She always has strong and realistic heroines set in a time where their professions were having a hard go of it. It’s not as good as some of her other stories but it’s certainly worth a read. Another good story to check off my to-read list!

A Heart Most Certain

27066707Lydia King knows exactly what it feels like to be in need. Her mother’s poor health and father’s despicable spending habits are putting them on the edge. With her cap set for a politician she is sent by her possible future mother-in-law to gather donations from Nicholas Lowe, who is notorious for not donating a cent to the Teaville Moral Society’s efforts. Determined to prove to  that she has what it takes to be the wife of the old lady’s son she sets off to get Lowe to donate – and it takes her another direction entirely.

Melissa Jagears always posses a brilliant talent with the pen and this was another fantastic read from her. I’ve read her mail-order bride stories and thought if this one was half as good as those it was going to be well worth staying up all night trying to finish the story. And you know what? It really was!

No Other Will Do

27066694Emma Chandler is different. There’s no denying that. But it’s gotten her to where she is now and there’s no denying that either. But sometimes you’ve got to bend just a little and let compromise sort out the more sticky situations. That’s why, despite her stance on males, Emma must enlist the help of Malachi Shaw to help bail her community out of something.

If Karen Whitmeyer’s stories didn’t have that dash of humor in them I would consider them just like all the other Christian Romance books out there. But the humor makes it something else altogether and I love it. I enjoyed this story as much as I did her others. History and wit. It starts off a little slow but after you get past that you’ll be engulfed by the story of the characters.

A Haven on Orchard Lane

cover83817-mediumSome things are just best left alone. For Charlotte Ward, that rings even truer after a rather messy jumpstart for her acting career. When her daughter comes into her life to help the mother who has been pretty much absent in her life, a learning experience begins.

I’ve read only one title by Lawana Blackwell (that I recall) and it’s been awhile but I do remember enjoying the book. So with that in mind I dove into this title with high hopes. I wasn’t disappointed. This author has a great talent with words and the ability to weave a story. Plus it’s history. Win-win. With emotion and surprises you’ll be turning the pages of this one well into the night. Good read.
